From the desk of our SHKBA President
|
Dear Members and Friends
Hong Kong has just celebrated the 25th anniversary of its handover. Some
of you may still remember the time when all over China the words 香港回归 Xianggang huigui
were placed in anticipation of the much looked forward date of July 1st, 1997.
These days, the media reports in China purported the same spirit of welcoming
Hong Kong. President Xi Jinping himself made the trip to Hong Kong to attend
the anniversary festivities last Friday. He said that the “one country, two
systems“ governing principle is supported by 1.4 billion Chinese people and
that “there is no reason to change such a good system, which must be supported
for a long time“.
Moreover, Hong Kong was assured of the key role that it will
play in the future development of the Greater Bay Area. Hong Kong’s new Chief
Executive John Lee pledged to boost Hong Kong’s economy to new levels. Despite
ongoing challenges, these are all good reasons for Hong Kong to look optimistic
into the next 25 years.
The update that we provide against this background in our newsletter
will hopefully give you more insights into these topics.
Sincerely,
| |
|
|
