As data privacy is getting prioritized worldwide, many countries have started to frame relevant laws and regulations in recent years on personal information protection like GDPR for Europe. The Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL) in China entered into force on 1 November 2021.

The interpretation of a new law is always a challenge for companies going to China. According to Me Jianping Mei (associate of Bonnard Lawson in Lausanne) and Me Vanessa Albuquerque (associate of Bonnard Lawson in Shanghai), companies going to China would need a general understanding of the regulatory environment of PIPL’s release, PIPL’s main characteristics as well as the difference between PIPL and GDPR to make a good compliance strategy in China.

At the end of the webinar, you will have a better understanding of the following topics:

1. Regulatory background for promulgating PIPL in China

2. PIPL main features

3. Principal differences between PIPL and GDPR

4. General Advice on compliance with PIPL under practical circumstances

5. Key points on compliance with PIPL in China
