In the first two quarters of this year, China's economy has seen numerous challenges. By far the biggest disruption came from Covid-related lockdowns and restrictions that had a major impact on hundreds of millions of people and caused the city and provincial governments to spend fortunes on quarantine facilities and testing equipment and procedures.

Domestic and foreign companies had to adapt to this economic nightmare and many did so by scaling back investment, postponing decisions, and reducing expenses and even headcount.

To assess the current situation and provide an outlook for the remaining months of this year, SwissCham Shanghai is delighted to invite Dr. Ibrahim Chowdhury. He is the Senior Economist for China at the World Bank. In his presentation, Dr. Chowdhury will reflect on recent economic developments, policy responses, the World Bank's short and longer-term outlook , and the risks to the outlook.

It is also our pleasure to have with us, Professor Huang Yi. He is a Professor of Finance at Fudan University in Shanghai. Professor Huang will provide a financial overview of China's economy and elaborate on current challenges and future opportunities in the second-largest economy in the world.
